Abstract

We study the quark number susceptibility in holographic QCD at finite temperature with/without a finite chemical potential or under an external magnetic field. When the temperature is the only scale of the system, we find that the quark number susceptibility divided by the temperature squared χq/T 2 is a temperature-independent constant in hightemperature deconfining phase. We then consider the quark number susceptibility with the chemical potential. We observe that approaching Tc from high temperature regime, χq/T 2 develops a peak as we increase the chemical potential. We discuss this behavior in connection with the existence of the critical end point in the QCD phase diagram. We also discuss briefly the effect of the magnetic field and a finite quark mass on the quark number susceptibility.
