Abstract

We investigate the pseudoscalar pion-nucleon constants in the framework of various chiral models of the nucleon. We demonstrate that strong isospin violation (m/sub u/not =m/sub d/) does not lead to a charge dependence of the pion-nucleon vertex as recently reported on the basis of NN scattering data. Using the equivalence theorem, we show that the pion mass difference leads to a 3% effect in the pseudovector ..pi..N coupling constants.
