Abstract

Tumbling complementarity is studied in chiral preon models with an SU( N) H hypercolor group. Models are found in which the hypercolor degrees of freedom N are reduced to the number of ordinary quark-lepton generations. Models for 3 ⩽ N ⩽ 6 are explicitly investigated. It is also interesting that some tumbling schemes with SU( N) H contain N − 1 different energy scales which may be interpreted as the fermion mass hierarchy.
