Abstract

We identify the major physics milestones in the development of strangehadrons as an observable for both the formation ofa quark-gluon plasma (QGP), and of the ensuing explosivedisintegration of adeconfined matter fireball formed inrelativistic heavy-ion collisions at 160-20 A GeV. Wedescribe the physical properties ofthe QGP phase and showagreement with the expectations based on an analysis ofhadron abundances. We then also demonstrate that them⊥ shape of hadron spectra is in qualitativeagreement with the sudden breakup of a supercooled QGPfireball.
