Abstract

Molecular rotation, libration and the associated quantum tunnelling reorientation phenomena are described, in particular for CH 3 -groups. Four ranges of tunnel frequencies and the corresponding methods for direct determination of tunnel frequencies and line widths and of nuclear spin conversion rates are discussed. As examples, experimental results, obtained with new methods developed in the authors' laboratory, about CH 3 -groups in Ge(CH 3 ) 4 , 4-methylpyridine and pentamethylbenzene are given and discussed.
