Abstract

Spontaneous emission in a one-dimensional microcavity is analyzed quantum mechanically. Formulas describing the atomic-location dependence of the emission intensity and the spectrum observed on both sides of the cavity are derived. A quantum mechanical expression for the electric field amplitude for a single emission event is given together with its evolution equation. Compact expressions are obtained for the emission spectrum and the spontaneous emission rate in terms of admittance.
