Abstract

It is shown that quantum interference between different Landau levels should be observable in the ballistic transport regime in a quasi-one dimensional structure under the application of an external magnetic field. When only a few such Landau levels are occupied, ballistic conductance along the device would show significant reproducible fluctuations which could be substantially enhanced above the universal conductance fluctuation observed in the diffusive regime. Numerical theoretical results based on the multichannel Landauer formulae are compared with recent experimental results to provide a unifying picture for conductance fluctuation effects in the ballistic regime.
