Abstract
In this paper we show the quantum group symmetry of the Zhiber-Mikhailov-Shabat model based on the non-local conserved currents that exist in the model. The S-matrix of the model is completely characterized by this symmetry. It is then used to study the RSOS version of the model which describes the Φ 21-perturbed and Φ 21-perturbed minimal models of conformal field theory as pointed out by Smirnov. The soliton and kink fields of the model are constructed explicitly.
