Abstract

Quantum decay from Josephson $\ensuremath{\pi}$ states, which is inherent in the Josephson system with fixed particle numbers, is investigated. Since the $\ensuremath{\pi}$ states have two different decay paths, they can interfere during the decay processes by quantum tunneling due to a topological phase originating from total particle-number restriction and result in parity effect for tunneling.
