Abstract

A comparison between a classical and a quantal description of heavy-ion dynamics in the energy and angular momentum range where chaotic scattering manifests itself is presented. In the chaotic domain quantal excitation functions present sharp fluctuations, which disappear outside. In the calculations only rotational degrees of freedom are considered. The role of absorption to other channels is also investigated. Such a quantum model behavior is a good candidate to explain the experimental fluctuations observed for certain heavy-ion collisions.
