Abstract

Zooplankton of the Lithuanian part of the Curonian Lagoon was studied at the end of spring and in summer between 1996 and 2002. The highest biomass of zooplankton was recorded at the beginning of July (up to 16.76 g/m3 in 1996). Brachionus calyciflorus was more abundant in 1997; Bosmina coregoni was more abundant in 1998; Asplanchna priodonta and Bosmina longirostris were more abundant in 1997 and 1999; Keratella quadrata and Kellicottia longispina were more abundant in 1999, whereas Chydorus sphaericus was more abundant in 1998 and 2000. Brachionus calyciflorus was found in the zooplankton community only till 1999. At the most study sites, among Cladocera, biomass of Daphnia longispina was highest during the whole study period. The smallest assemblages of zooplankton were found at the mouths of the Atmata and Vytinė Rivers and in the littoral, mostly at the aquatic part between Ventė and Kintai.
