Abstract

The activities of 2 enzymes of the pentose phosphate pathway, glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and 6- phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGDH) were measured in the 3 zones of the rat adrenal cortex. No change in the activity of either enzyme in any cortical zone was observed at several time intervals after the administration of ACTH to intact rats. After 4 days of sodium deprivation the activity of G6PDH was elevated specifically in the zona glomerulosa. The activity of both enzymes in the zona fasciculata and zona reticularis was depressed by the administration of cortisone for 4 days. (Endocrinology 75: 741, 1964)
