Abstract

Aqueous sugar solutions containing fructorse, glucose and sucrose can be derivatised rapidly with a novel oxiating reagent, incorporating an organic buffer. The buffered reagent produces rapid and reproducible oximation of the monosaccharides without hydrolysing sucrose or affecting its silylation. Reasons for the use of a SP-2250 glass capillary for the separation of sugars in cane molasses are also given.
