Abstract

The magnetic amplitude method is an effective tool in the exploration of remanently magnetized materials, and 3D inversion plays an important role in the quantitative interpretation of magnetic data arisen from such applications. However, a methodology for determining the error statistics relating to amplitude data and associated inversion has not been well developed, hindering the ability to properly estimate the data misfit associated with an inverse model and therefore the model itself. To overcome these challenges, we investigate amplitude error statistics.
