Abstract

This paper describes a method for the quantitative estimation of the oil-source potential of fossil organic matter, based on the determination of the amount of lipid elements in the latter, including their soluble and insoluble forms. The quantity of lipid material has been calculated using the values of the yield of semi-coking products. Use of the method is illustrated in the Timan-Pechora domanik deposits, through which changes in the characteristics of the organic matter have been traced in the depth range of 3200 to 4900 m.
