Abstract

The problem of power system stabiliser design is viewed from the perspective of reducing interaction between the electrical and mechanical feedback loops before feedback loop design is attempted. Perron root theory is used to provide a measure of the interaction of uncertain multivariable plants and this leads to a constructive design approach that satisfies client requirements under varying load conditions. If the interaction index can be made less than unity by the design, stability of the diagonal loop designs guarantees stability of the closed loop multivariable system.
