Abstract

Purpose: Effective non-surgical options for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) continue to represent an urgent unmet medical need. Symptomatic treatments to manage pain and improve function include injectable products such as hyaluronic acid (HA) preparations, as well as a number of other biologic compositions such as platelet rich plasma (PRP; prepared from patient’s autologous blood) and, more recently, injectable placental tissue allografts. PTP-001 represents a novel placental tissue particulate which is in development as a biologic for the treatment of pain and impaired function in patients suffering from OA of the knee.
