Abstract

The efficiency of hydrocyclones is determined based on the partition curve, whose trend is usually S shaped. However, concave shape curves have been reported, which are still subject to discussion in this field. Authors asserting fish hook is a real effect in hydrocyclones analysed the influence of operating parameters on the dip and peak points. However, to our knowledge, no clear relationship has been established between the prominence of fish hooks and operating and geometric factors. Accordingly, the effect of the operating and geometric parameters of hydrocyclones on the fish hook prominence was analysed. Two new parameters have been defined, which are the efficiencies of the dip and peak points. The inlet pressure, solid concentration, and hydrocyclone geometry were modified and the dip and peak efficiencies were estimated. The results prove that fish hook is a real trend with operating and geometric parameters having a clear influence on its prominence.
