Abstract

The shape of sand particles affects the macro and micro mechanical properties of sand. In this paper, a quantitative analysis method of sand particle shape is proposed based on image processing technology. The area, perimeter and ferret diameter of Fujian sand particles are counted, and the particle shape parameters (flatness and roundness) are constructed. The calculation results show that the flatness of the sand sample is basically about 1.4, and the roundness of the particles is basically between 1.1 and 1.5. The shape of Fujian sand particles is mainly a slightly narrow quadrilateral, and there are few rod particles and circular particles. The flatness and roundness of different particle sizes have a significant concentration trend with the change of particle size. The above research results can provide a reference for the study of macro and micro mechanical properties of sand.
