Abstract

A deconvolution procedure for Conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy ICEMS) data allowing the quantitative analysis of phase concentration and a visualization of phase depth distribution profiles in nitrogen implanted iron (FeN) is described. An experimental verification and application of this procedure to high dose nitrogen implanted bulk iron are presented. The method permits to demonstrate that the phase transformation in the FeN system is incomplete (i.e. a pure α-Fe phase remains in the surface layer) notwithstanding that the saturation of nitrogen is observed.
