Abstract

The line-by-line method of computing emission and spectral transmission is analysed in order to determine the H 2O and O 3 concentrations relative to that of O 2 in the lower stratosphere. The effects of computation parameters are discussed. The method of calculating the relative constituent concentrations from integrated emission line areas is analysed quantitatively. While good accuracy was obtained for the results for the strong H 2O lines, the same cannot be said of the weak O 3 lines.
