Abstract
Materials and Methods: Hemoglobin levels were measured in 198 men with stage T1-T3 N0 M0 prostate cancer before and after treatment. 54 patients had prostate radiation alone (P), and 46 had prostate radiation with 4 to 6 months of androgen deprivation (P H). 98 patients received whole pelvis radiation in addition to prostate radiation and 43 of these patients received 4 to 6 months of androgen deprivation (WP H), while 55 did not (WP). Androgen deprivation consisted of leuprolide with or without an anti-androgen. No patient had evidence of bleeding during treatment. The median hemoglobin changes were compared between treatment groups as well as the incidence of hemoglobin changes 2 gm.
