Abstract

Introduction: Intermittent claudication (IC) is a symptom of peripheral vascular disease and describes a cramp-like pain in the calf or thigh muscles, aggravated by physical activity (PA) and relieved by rest. Patients report needing to stop whilst walking, but few studies have attempted to quantify their walking patterns. The aim of this study was to compare the duration and cadence of free-living walking events of IC patients with aged-matched controls.
