Abstract

We quantify the electromagnetic field near a perfect mirror. The electromagnetic field is expanded into appropriate doublet modes obtained by superposition of the two incident and reflected waves satisfying Fresnel's conditions. These functions form a complete basis of the space of the field states and it is so possible to quantify as in a free field. We use successively the Maxwell-Minkowski tensor and de Broglie's one. The use of the latter is in fact easier and more straightforward.
