Abstract

Several states of He2+ are necessary for a molecular treatment of the collision between He+ and He at a few keV and large angles (E theta >or approximately=3 keV deg): one state 2 Sigma g, one 2 Sigma u, four 2 Pi g, one 2 Delta g and four 2 Pi u. Ab initio molecular calculations, made for all these states, for internuclear distances ranging from 0 to 70 au are presented. After configuration interaction the 2 Pi u states tend to the same separated-atom limits as the 2 Pi g states. The calculations show that secondary couplings among Pi g states and Pi u states occur in the vicinity of 2 Bohr. Quantal close-coupling calculations of direct and exchange, differential and total cross sections for one- and two-electron excitations of He in He+ on He collisions at 2 and 3 keV are presented.
