Abstract

Quantal effects in multiple Coulomb excitation are discussed mainly in relation to their influence on the quadrupole moments of excited states which are deduced from multiple excitation experiments. The effects are calculated by using the coupled-channels formalism. Some examples of the results are discussed in more detail, and it is shown that for certain experimental conditions, the quantal effects might be of importance.
