Abstract
Botanicals have been used in traditional healthcare systems since ancient times in all major civilizations around the world. The main reason is that botanical products provide rational means for the treatment of many diseases that are obstinate and incurable in other system of medicine. The elevated levels and narrow margins of quality standards for herbal raw materials impose a strong restraint on the choice of batches and sources. In recent years with ever growing commercialization in the field of botanicals, there has been an increased demand for quality control (Q.C.) of these botanicals. Standardization is usually recommended as a solution to the problem.
