Abstract

ISEE-148 Objective: The region of South Bohemia is determined by the divisions Ceske Budejovice, Cesky Krumlov, Jindrichuv Hradec, Pisek, Prachatice, Strakonice, and Tabor. The area is 10,056 km2, 12.8% of the Czech Republic. The water sheets constitute 25,000 ha. The region is a very important recreational area. The localities for bathing in free nature in the Czech Republic are divided into open air pools in free nature, surface waters used for bathing (bathing areas), and the other water sheets. The water quality in the region of South Bohemia is monitored by taking into account 8 bathing areas and 1 open air pool in free nature. The bathing areas are situated at a Lipno dam, Orlik dam, Hejtman pond, and Stankovsky pond. The open air pool in free nature is situated on the Vajgar pond, Jindrichuv Hradec. The water quality in localities for bath in free nature is monitored according to the regulation of the Ministry of Health No. 135/2004 Sb. and requirements are partly taken over the regulation 76/160/EE about the water quality for bathing. Material and Methods: Secondary analysis of dates of the water quality indicators in all localities for bathing in free nature in South Bohemia. The dates of last 3 years are compiled according to the Regulation of the Ministry of Health No. 135/2004 Sb. Results: The quality of the water is mostly suitable for bathing and people are not threatened by the risks from water by means of the regular monitoring every 2 weeks. Conclusions: The localities for bathing in the free nature are regularly monitored. The water quality is mostly suitable for bathing; people cannot be threatened by the risks from the water because of the measures realized in case of breach of the limits.
