Abstract

QOL research in Asia has experienced a leap forward in terms of orientation, scope, method and substantive findings in the 2000s and 2010s. This essay reviews QOL research on and in Asia for the last 20 years with a focus on the AsiaBarometer. Analytical thrusts into such topics as trust, democracy, civilizational clash and societal types are shown. Quality of life (QOL) in Asia is an exciting area of study. It is very interdisciplinary. Because Asia is demographically vast and economically large and because its characters are diverse and dynamic, it is natural to see much academic interest focused on quality of life in Asia.
