Abstract

References 301A fundamental goal of care for individuals with dementia is the maximization of their quality of life over the illness course. A major challenge is determining what makes life as good as possible in the face of this chronic, progressive illness that impacts every aspect of life. The importance of this goal is reflected by the increasing focus of research on quality of life (QoL) in dementia that has occurred over the past two decades. This chapter examines how QoL in dementia is conceptualized and measured, what we are learning about it, and how future research may advance understanding of this sometimes elusive concept.
