Abstract

Depression is a common psychological comorbidity in patients with heart failure and in their family caregivers. Depression is associated with poorer quality of life but it is not known whether depression is associated with family dynamics. The purpose of this study was to compare quality of life and family function among dyads categorized into 4 groups (1) neither member depressed, (2) depressed caregiver only, (3) depressed patient only, or (4) both members depressed.
