Abstract

The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) to identify perceptions of quality of life among a sample of 35 older women with rheumatoid arthritis; and, (2) to describe the strategies they employ to improve the quality of their lives. The responses of these women were consistent with other studies examining dimensions of quality of life; however, these participants also revealed specific self-care actions that were planned and deliberate, aimed at making their lives more enjoyable. This study also underscored the impact of chronic illness on the economic well-being of oIder women.
