Abstract

This prospective, observational study was designed to evaluate the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provided by health care providers to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients. The study compared quality of CPR provided by Basic Life Support (BLS)-capable emergency response units, and Advanced Life Support (ALS)-capable emergency response units. BLS units included two emergency medical services (EMS) providers, whereas ALS units were assisted by paramedics, nurse anesthetists, or were physician-manned.
