Abstract

Subjective quality measurements on speech coders for mobile radio were performed by the Mean Opinion Score Method. Tested coders were adaptive transform coder (ATC), adaptive predictive coder (APC), sub-band coder (SBC), and residue excited linear predictive coder (RELP) with transmission rates below 16 kbit/s. Promising results were obtained for RELP, SBC, and APC, while the tested versions of ATC got disappointingly low scores.
