Abstract

As the pediatric palliative care (PPC) field matures, interdisciplinary PPC teams are called to draw from the growing evidence base to deepen their efforts to optimize care for children with serious illness and their families. Quality PPC provision depends on an awareness of the experiences and perspectives of all involved in the child’s care, followed by a willingness to tailor care to meet the preferences and goals of each family. This chapter explores the current state of quality in PPC, including a summary of national quality-focused organizations, initiatives, and standards of care. A family’s perspective on what it means to receive quality PPC is offered, along with practical strategies from an interdisciplinary perspective to encourage teams to collaborate on incorporating quality initiatives in their daily practice.
