Abstract

The article discusses quality aspects of academic text production in Translation Studies at various levels. The significance of evaluation criteria such as originality, relevance, methodology, clarity, and presentation are discussed from both the author's and the evaluator's point of view. A detailed description of quality standards in academic text production focussing on feedback already available within existing frameworks can support the harmonisation of academic work in Europe and help students and future authors avoid some typical pitfalls. This of course should not rule out the individual opinions of authors and readers and it must also be added that the experience is garnered mostly from German thesis writing.
