Abstract

The analysis of the distribution system can be done using feeder, load, and source impedances. A distribution system subjected to power electronicsbased nonlinear loads in low voltage distribution system (LVDS) has significant power quality problems. These nonlinear loads include both voltage source harmonic loads (VSHL) and current source harmonic loads (CSHL) in the LVDS. Before going for a suitable choice of compensation, it is necessary to analyze the distribution system for better compensation. In this paper, a radial distribution system layout is proposed for the analysis based upon the quality factor (X/R ratio). A frequency domain analysis is used for the proposed distribution system layout. The simulation performance of the proposed system based upon quality factor has been demonstrated through the results obtained in PSCAD platform. The results are verified experimentally in the laboratory distribution system model.
