Abstract

The foundations of four oil tanks at the site of an oil refinery were made of 380-420 CFA piles each. Dynamic load tests were performed on 4 test piles and 12 structural piles. Measurements were made by a „Pile Driving Analyzer” (PDA) and the results were evaluated by the „CAPWAP” method. Static load test was also made on the first test pile for calibration purpose after the dynamic test. The agreement between the results of static and dynamic load tests was very good. The integrity of 160 piles were tested by low-strain dynamic tests. The measurements were made by a „PDA-PIT” equipment. Discontinuity was detected in 1-1.5 m depth in case of one pile, and it was verified by excavating the top section of the pile. Experiences showed that low-strain and high-strain dynamic tests provide reliable cost- and time efficient method for quality control of CFA pile.
