Abstract

The authors present an on-line measurement and control system intended to continuously monitor and optimize the efficiency and reliability of gas compressors. The system is based on a computer simulation of the compressor capable of projecting its optimum pressure, temperature, and vibrational regimes and correcting the actual operating deficiencies of the compressor against those optimum conditions. The application of the system to two types of compressors--a marine compressor refrigerator and a rotary compressor--is demonstrated. A full system design is given and the reduction in computer time and cost achieved by implementation of the system is outlined.
