It is representative of a genre of research, departmental quality assurance, that is not necessarily new but for which I believe there will be a strongly increasing demand in the coming years. The calls for local research that demonstrate quality in imaging services will originate from various quarters, including such agencies as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, health care payers, employer and health care quality groups, and even our own specialty organizations.
