Abstract

Nairobi sheep disease virus was transmitted trans-stadially by the Ixodid tick, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, after feeding of different instars (stages) upon immune, susceptible or non-susceptible hosts. Ticks in a vertically infected series were able to transmit the virus at the adult stage after feeding as larvae and nymphs upon immune sheep. Transovarian transmission of the virus appeared to be dependent upon an infective feed at the adult stage. Patent infection in eggs could not be demonstrated before the fourth day of oviposition.
