Abstract
This paper presents necessary and sufficient conditions for the eigenvalues of a given real n × n matrix to lie inside the unit circle in the complex plane, whenever the modulus of each matrix entry is only known to be zero; between zero and one; equal to one; or greater than one. Such a matrix is called m-stable (modulus-stable), and the qualitative stability referred to in the title is m-stability.
