Abstract
An initial study was performed on the identification of halogenated natural products (HNPs) in food samples from marine sources. Three naturally produced compounds (the heptachloro 1´-methyl-1,2´-bipyrrole Q1, the dibromotrichloro monoterpene MHC-1, and 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, TBA) were identified in a fish-oil capsule marketed as food supply, in commercial fish food, and in trout (Salmo spp.) fed with this fish food over a period of 3 months. Fish fed with the commercial food contained approx. 20–35% of the PCB 153 concentration.
