Abstract

Abstract The results of an analysis of potential accidents in the cryostat system of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) are presented. Potential events initiating accident situations in the ITER cryostat system are considered on the basis of the experience gained at cryostats of the Russian tokamaks T-7 and T-15 with superconducting magnets as well as in the Stand for Investigation of superconducting Magnet Systems (SIMS), where all the T-15 coils were tested before their assembly. Possible accident scenarios are considered and corresponding event trees are given. The most severe consequences of such accidents are described.
