Abstract

We have performed a thick-target particle-$\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence experiment to measure $q({2}^{+\ensuremath{'}})$, the quadrupole moment of the second ${2}^{+}$ state, of $^{184,186}\mathrm{W}$. We have also determined $q({2}^{+\ensuremath{'}})$ of $^{186}\mathrm{W}$ by an independent method involving particle spectroscopy. Neither the rotation-vibration nor the asymmetric rotor model can explain the results. Kumar-Baranger calculations agree with the trend.
