Abstract

We have performed ultrasonic measurements of the Kondo compound Ce x La 1− x B 6 at low temperatures. A quenching of the quadrupolar moment of the Λ 8 ground state in Ce 0.03La 0.97B 6. A remarkable increase of the ultrasonic attenuation due to the quadrupolar fluctuations in Ce 0.5La 0.5B 6 has been found. The effect of the Kondo singlet formation at very low temperatures is discussed.
