Abstract

Question: A 59-year-old woman visited the emergency department for her progressive pharyngalgia and nonradiating retrosternal pain in the past 3 days. She reported an 8-year history of type II diabetes mellitus and 4-year history of C4/C5 disc herniation. No past medical history of hypertension, coronary artery disease, or gastroesophageal reflux was noted. Upon further interview, she recalled an accidental ingestion of a chicken bone 1 month ago, with a transient pharyngalgia that resolved 2 days afterward.
