Abstract

This paper presents a class of quadratic step- <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{up}/\mathbf{down}$</tex> converters with wider conversion ratio and lower voltage stress on the switch, by inserting a three-terminal switching cell to the traditional buck-boost converter, SEPIC, CUK and ZETA converters, respectively. The voltage conversion range of the presented quadratic converters are wider than that of the traditional buck-boost converter and the cascaded quadratic buck-boost converter. The normalized voltage stress on the switches of the proposed quadratic converters is lower than that of the traditional buck-boost and the cascaded quadratic buck-boost converter. The topologies, the operating principle in continuous conduction mode, and the comparisons with the other buck-boost converters are presented. One of the proposed topologies is preliminarily evaluated in both simulation and experiment.
