Abstract

Normally, compression of the bulbous urethra by a sling reduces incontinence. A quadratic male sling may fail because of initial loose placement or subsequent loosening of the sling during daily activity by the patient. The slippage reduces external compression of the bulbar urethra. The lower left shows the normal state of compression and elevation of the bulbous urethra by a quadratic sling to reduce incontinence. The lower right shows initial loose placement or subsequent loosening of the sling causing reduced compression of the bulbous urethra leading to incontinence. A revision can repair the damage and restore continence. © 2014 International Society for Sexual Medicine
