Abstract

Introduction: Following bariatric surgery, patients are at risk for developing specific vitamin and mineral deficiencies. In particular, low levels of calcium and Vitamin D have been reported. The purpose of this study is to define both the pre-operative and post-operative Vitamin D status in patients undergoing either a malabsorptive (Gastric Bypass) or restrictive (Lap Band) bariatric surgical procedure. Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed of data collected on patients to undergo bariatric surgery between July of 2002 and February of 2007.
